Encaustic Art

As a mixed media artist I am always on the lookout for new art techniques, especially those that let the artist combine a selection of materials.

I came across Encaustic. It’s an ancient method that was used by the Greeks and the Romans. It’s based on using wax as a paint medium. Lately it has been adopted and used by modern artist. Painting with wax is very seductive, and I was drown to it immediately. The possibilities are endless: the wax lets you work in layers, and it’s translucent. It’s possible to incase different materials between the layers, and thus create a captivating depth.

I started by combining the encaustic with photos I took and then gradually shifted to just using the wax, the pigments, and objects.
